Introduction is the offering for sale to the public. Catalogs, printed lists, websites and advertisements in the American Iris Society Bulletin are acceptable means of introduction. Irises must be recorded as introduced before they become eligible for entry into the awards system can receive awards higher than High Commendation. Such awards are honorable mention (HM), award of merit (AM), medal for the class, such as the Wister Medal for Tall Bearded irises or ultimately the American Dykes Medal, the highest award any iris can win.
It is the responsibility of the hybridizer to send by first-class mail to the Registrar-Recorder a copy of the catalog, list, advertisement or printed copy of website (and URL) showing introduction with the year prominently displayed. Social media Is not eligible as a method of introduction.
Once you introduce your iris, you may wish to advertise in Irises: The Bulletin of The American Iris Society. You may either place an ad in the Shopping Section, the main publication or both. To advertise in Irises go to Bulletin Advertising Rates.
